College Counseling 101

Applying to college can seem a daunting task. Making a list of potential schools, navigating the applications, finding the right people for recommendations, and meeting crucial deadlines can seem overwhelming and confusing. Schools operating on tight budgets have increased their counselors’ caseloads, and their time has been stretched to the limit. Parents and students wonder where to turn for help and advice.

For the past 18 years Bridget Boyle has worked with individual students and their parents, primarily in Riverside and Orange Counties. Beginning with spring 2010, she will be counseling students and their families in Northern New Mexico as well. As a private college guidance counselor, she has used her extensive knowledge of colleges and universities to assist students in their search for colleges that fit their personalities, academic needs and career goals.

Having your own college advisor to keep you organized, follow timelines, and share ideas is a smart plan in this time of competitive college admissions. Working individually with an experienced counselor on your applications and personal statements can reduce the stress involved during this important senior year, and parents find that having an individual counselor can help keep family harmony, as well.

Younger high school students appreciate working on a long term basis with Bridget Boyle because she can help you to plan a strong high school curriculum, choose extracurricular areas that showcase your strengths, and point the way toward summer and vacation activities that will enable you to grow intellectually and personally.

Parents unfamiliar with the college admissions process can be assured that they, too, will be learning every step of the way, with information and assurance immediately available.
